I know he was loaded with stuff (there's a pun here) but he managed somehow.

And a great one at that....

Chris would love to have a copy of that Blue Cord. Looking at the car a little closer I remember the tire problems I had after leaving home in PA. To quote Doug Johnson " I told you so" On my way to Mecca I thought to myself this great car is running splendidly cool no rain I will do this trip in less than 12 hours a one day trip nothing like a Cord on the road. WRONG, now driving on the interstate 80 12 noon hot road bed at least 110 degree asphalt, stripped the tire tread on both fronts, purchased new fronts in Ohio. That's all I needed then. Stripped one rear tire inside the boarder of Indiana, now no spare just as I got into Auburn stripped the tread on the other rear. All five great looking tires did not make it. Had my trusty ACD club rooster and called Jay Engler who was able to pick up the only other two matching tires in the world in Ohio from the shop I purchased the fronts. Called Bob McEwan before he left to bring a spare if he could. I know he was loaded with stuff(there's a pun here) but he managed somehow. There is a lesson to be learned here(LOOKS AREN'T EVERYTHING".

I agree with Ethan, that's why I asked--they may not be correct, but they do look wonderful. IMHO.

If they were a factory option, they sure didn't sell very well. The only ones I have ever seen were the ones that Ethan Turner had on a baby blue Cord.

I suspect they were after-market.

No ,however when I brought the blue cabriolet to Mecca I had heart throbs thinking what have I done. My purist friends of the club would abandoned me for leaving the straight and narrow of authenticity, however it seemed to bring up excitement. It did look great in my opinion. The skirts came from a car done in the early or late 1940's, Bob McEwan gave me a Xerox copy of a phaeton taken in the 50Ty's. Rick Simpson has it on one of his Auburn tapes, the car now owned by Mike Smith of Ohio.
