Henry, Thank you for your informative reply. I will now be able to fit my valves properly. I am a novice with car restoration but I am having fun with this project despite the anxiety of not knowing exactly what I'm doing. Input such as yours gives me reassurance and is greatly appreciated. Is that "National Automotive Shop Manual" something I can get at a book store or library? It sounds like what I need for specs. Also I looked up your profile on the ACD Club. It shows you are a transmission specialist for the Cord. I may need your services down the road. I'll write to you agaian when/if I get the engine running. Shouldn't be much longer now. Dan

Valve spring pressures,The National Automotive Shop Manual for 810/812 Cords shows closed @59.5 lb @ height of 2.187; open @ 122lb @ height of 1.844. You can use shims of .015/.030 to obtain the 122lbs if you like; place them next to the block. Also place the the end of the spring where the coils are closer together there. Have fun! Henry

Valve spring pressures was created by danooo7
I'm restoring my '37 Cord Standard 812 engine. I'm now replacing the valve springs. I've purchased new springs from Auburn/Cord Parts Co. and am having them tested. Does anyone know what the valve spring pressures should be in the Cord engine? I have tried to shim my old springs but the shims occupied the depression in the block where the springs should be and therefore I didn't think they would operated properly and opted to buy new ones instead. Now I need to know what the proper valve spring pressures should be and the acceptable variations (range) are. Any help is greatly appreciated. My old springs varied from 24lbs to 42lbs. Thanks Dan
