The clutch switch is not quite a simple on-off switch. Its internal contacts slide on the actuating rod, so it makes and breaks at different points depending on whether the clutch pedal is going up or coming down.

You can esily test the switch with a light or meter to be sure that it's making contact every time the clutch goes to the floor. (For adjusting the switch linkage see your Service Bulletins.)

Startix does often contribute to the problem. The main contacts get pitted and oxidized, among other problems. You might check with Jim McCarthy in MI at (810)735-9394. So far as I know he is THE Startix expert.

Thank-you all for the "starting problem" answers. I am starting to sort through and implement them now.

Extended question: Can the switch activated by / below the clutch effect starting the car ? Can / will it go bad slowly or is it an "either works or doesn't work" type of switch ?

Thanks !
