My headlight assemblies open and shut fine, but the headlights themselves are aimed toward the ground. How do I adjust these? They have been converted to sealed beams. Thanks, Hampton

Solution to adjusting gap is usually just loosening bolts inside the fender, and sliding whole bucket up. Since there's grit and decades of crud or coatings under there, removal of the bucket may be needed if the adjustment isn't acceptable. Even if your car is nicely restored, sounds like the bucket bolts loosened and it all slid down.

If simple adjustment doesn't do it, hole adjustment or internal bracket adjustment may be required but hopefully not, evidence is that gravity made a good fit bad. I'll bet you that there's no lock washers up there, and if not that's why.

(Be sure to have a large well-padded platform under the headlamp if you start removing screws or stainless lens retainer on the front!)

Bill,
You may have to file the holes in the headlamp bucket to be able to position the unit higher in the fender. It is possible that the parts have been mixed between 2 cars & they are not always the same. Good luck!

Hi Bill,

First you will have to remove the headlamp and reflector from the headlamp lid. This can be done by removing the two large chrome screws that hold the headlamp assembly to the lid. Once removed, examine the lid lifting mechanisms closely. You should find an adjusting screws that acts as a stop preventing the lid from being closed beyond the fender.

If this does not correct your problem, examine the fender to see if any body work has been proformed. Sometimes the gap between the fender and the lid is just to close. Also, if you loosen the screws that hold the entire headlight assembly to the fender (acessible from the underside of the fender) you can sometimes move the entire assembly up and down and from side to side.

Hope this helps.

CORDially,

Al Hatch

P.S. See you in a few weeks at the Can-Am Meet.

How do you adjust the headlight lids so they close properly in the fenders ?

I have one lid where the gap is too large at the top and it rubs on the bottom when closing.

Thanks !
