Steve, I bought my hubcap rubber/wires, on a whim, some years ago from Stan. I bought my "new" hubcaps about a year ago.
they are replated originals . The wire wouldn't fit in the slot and after fussing with the wires without luck I decided not to pry the slot open and risk messing up my beautiful and expensive hubcaps. Glue seems to be the right compromise for me. I'd spend pix but my car is living in the shop getting the brakes working reliably. Rebuilt cylinders all around.
Cheers, Bill Coye

You can buy the correct rubber and wire from Stan Gililand. On new hubcaps they should fit right in, with the pressure from the wire ring holding them in place. I didn't need any adhesive. I only had problems with older hubcaps that were rechromed and there wasn't enough space for the wire to fit in.

Bill,
I have a new set of reproduction caps for my car but have no idea what the rubber and wire look like or where they are mounted on the caps. Any chance that you have a picture of them that you could post or email me at [email protected].
I think that if Cord had our modern adhesives they would have used it also.
Thanks
Steve

Hi Gary, They're a Harley product but I don't think I got them from a Harley dealer. Somehow found them fooling around on line while not looking for anything in particular......I spend more money that way!

Great idea to zip tie the caps to the wheel. Did you get the chrome zip ties from a Harley dealer?

Well since no one has responded to your question I'll admit to gluing my hubcap rubber/wire. Not kosher but roughly a year and no problems. I also use chrome plated zip ties to ensure I wont lose my hubcaps.

hubcap rubber & wire installation was created by wynlaidig
Does anyone have any advice or tricks for installing the hubcap rubber and wire? I feel like I saw a forum post on this a number of months ago, but all my searches on this forum come up empty.
