Thanks Tim, I think the colour you are referring to is called zinc chromate.
There were still traces of it on my carburettor.

Josh's article was "Color it Yellow", printed in the 2001 No. 5 Newsletter. He said that it seemed that the EE-15 bodies were dipped in dichromate that gave it a "golden-yellow-greenish" color when new. His conclusion was: "Looks like for unsupercharged 810 anb 812 Cords at least, the correct color for the carburetor is golden-yellow-greenish."

Terry is correct. It is a zinc chromate finish. My carb had some of the original finish on it. I had the body re plated when I rebuilt the carb. attached is picture of finished carb.

You can get zinc chromate primer on Amazon or any of the aircraft/pilot supply sites. i.e., aircraft spruce

The top cover on your carb. looks warped. If you haven't started using it yet it might leak.

Mike most of those carburettors would have ended up with the float chamber top distorted due to the screw pattern. I had been told to bend the sides down but kept clear of literally doing that. Instead I made up a sheet metal cover plate that puts gentle pressure on the corners as the three screws are tightened. It sort of blends in.
I had also painted the carburettor silver as zinc chromate plating is not available here.
