Thanks guys for the replies. I just happen to have a couple of pictures of Moonshadow's engine bay which Josh sent me a long time ago. When the engine is refitted in the not too distant future she will look as good as new.

Thanks for this tip. H12 plugs are MUCH easier to purchase than the H10 but if someone wants an H10 they can run the h10C which is a resister plug that has copper in it to help with radio static...

If you’re not obsessed with judging and drive your Cord, I have been very happy using Champion H12 plugs in both my stranded and S/C engines.

Terry the Autolite 860 plug is what Matches the Champion H10 and Josh Malks ran the 860. They are a nice looking black body plug. They "pass" for everyday appearance plug.

For the Cord people with drivers what sort of plugs are the equivalent of the following.
Champion J9 for standard engines ......................... NGK ??????????????
Champion H10 for supercharged engines ............. NGK ??????????????

It is my suderstanding that ALL Champion plugs prior to 1947 were two rib. They phased five rib in over time.

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

During all this information about head thickness the factory sent back all the H10 plugs they had. Further statements said from this date (I do not have it memorized" all Lycombing engines will use the Champion H10... I believe these newer plugs were designed differently then the sent back Ho plugs. Thats my take and seems to be a reason for judging requiring the two ring H10 plugs. I have done some reading about the J9 plugs and wondered why we are NOT requiring them.

Maybe if more people read the" Engineering Changes", the prices of H10 plugs would go down, because they were only specified for supercharged engines, not standard engines.
On page 20 of the engineering changes S. R. Thomas on 1/30/36 is talking about the initial run of engines having slightly thinner heads that require a J7 plug to get the same combustion characteristics as the J9 which he is specifying for all future engines when the heads start coming through with the correct thickness. Note, they weren't building supercharged engines at t his point i n time.
Later in the "Engineering Changes" on 4/22/37 on Page 32, L.R. Jones sent a note to E.A.Stewart stating revised specifications for the H10 plugs, which he notes are now used on the supercharged engines.

So why does everyone say we should have H10 plugs in every Cord out there ? Did this myth get started way back when, and just get perpetuated to being a judging standard these days?

If the original spark plugs in good condition sell for very high prices surely there would be a company out there somewhere to manufacture a considerable batch at affordable prices?

These plugs were sold but...I bet they went for much less than the buy it now price.I have no way of finding out what they sold for.I did not purchase them. But this does put a new value of the two ring H10 plugs I have. I have a couple that actually have the Ford script on the sides of them. They even came in the Champion Ford box...

I am inclined to agree with your comments however you can't turn back the tide. The goal posts are always moving. How many ordinary people can afford to buy a Duesenberg or a Buehrig Auburn Speedster these days?
I believe tickets to entre Pebble Beach are $500 US and yet 18,000 people were there this year. I would rather pour $500 worth of petrol in my Westchester and keep driving it. Duesenbergs keep being donated to the museum in Auburn which is incredible. At least we can continue to enjoy our cars until it is time to pass them on to the next generation. There are always pros and cons, just continue to enjoy it the best you can.

After 51 years in the car hobby and seeing spark plugs on EBay for $1600.00 and seeing the “evolution “ of car judging, this is what has turned me off about the old car hobby.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationWhile searching ebay tonight I "found these".... I was shocked at the buy it now price. You may remember a few years ago I shared some from ebay that sold for nearly $800.00 for a set of 8. Enjoy anyway...
