Wyn, I think they started the hardboard later they 2011. I have seen two original cars that were later then that and didn't have the hardboard.

Jim, I believe you are correct, based on what I have been learning. I found an email from Rick Hulett stating that they began using the hardboard for the trunk lid with 810 #2011. In that same email he states that all 810's had tail lamps in the trunk lid.

If I remember correctly the tail lights were moved late in 1937. The change on the inside was done in late 1936.

I remember reading that the tail lights were moved from the trunk lid to the sides of the body because the lights were not visible at night if the trunk lid was opened. It appears to have been a safety decision.
It may be listed in the Engineering Change Notices.

Nope they came both ways. I’m not sure when the change occurred. I once bought a phaeton parts car from Bill Craig in Reno Nevada and the tail lights were in the body.

I'm no expert on the convertibles but... I thought only the cars with the Continental kits had the tail lights on the body.

Does anyone know what serial number changed from taillights being located on the trunk to the on the body sides? I was just wondering if that occurred at the same time the inside of the trunk lid changed from using all jute material to the painted hardboard. I searched the engineering changes but didn't seem to locate it.
