Mike I have seen an Auburn with a similar "sandwich" head made in two pieces.
There would have been more sealing problems for sure but with care they would have been no problem.
I have seen two engines with these heads. I know a guy who has one and I also have one.
New heads could be made the same way from billet with a CNC machine.

Sure would be easy to clean out the cooling passages on those heads Terry. More sealing problems though.

"Some are better than others" is what I was concerned/wondering about. I do remember my dad saying that the new heads were supposed to have improved cooling characteristics.
Maybe I can find a receipt somewhere.

Hi AJ, following on from your request this is just for general information.
Around the world Cord heads have been made for local consumption by various people.
Here in Australia a few set were made in Melbourne that are still around. I have one of them. It was made in two pieces to eliminate the need for core castings. They have a deeper profile than original heads for a larger coolant capacity. The thermostats also appears to have been eliminated as well as the coolant flow through the inlet manifold, with the outlet connecting directly to the radiator.
A few years ago Bill Bicknell in Missouri sent me a picture of some rare bronze heads that were on an engine he was rebuilding. The castings were made solid then coolant passages were drilled to circulate the coolant.
Both designs are unique and appeared to solve the problem.
I have also heard of cast iron heads but have no idea where they were made.

History of Reproduction Heads? was created by alsancle
In the past 15 years or so our car got a new set of heads. My dad did all the work and I occasionally paid a little attention and helped. He doesn't remember who he purchased the heads from or when. Has there been more than one run of reproduction heads in the last 20 years? Could somebody give me a brief description. Also, is there a way to determine which ones we are running?
thanks, A.J.
