Sarah, have a look at Page 2 of the Gear Selector Switch Wiring topic.
Towards the bottom of the page are some good pictures.

Still working on the shift switch. New wafer has arrived today. Looking at the article from the club magazine the spring that gives pressure on the wafer switch Is way shorter than the one i have. Can anyone give me the length, wire size of what the spring should be

The wafer was damaged and I have a new one on the way. Temporarily fixed the old one. The finger change was also very badly worn, you didn't have to lift to engage reverse ,so have made a new one

Hi Paul, there should still be available a book on the gear box from the Museum in Auburn. It was written by Sid Ayres. It is also being currently updated and reprinted. Jim O'Brien would be the best contact for the new book.
Jim's new email address is

Excellent, thanks Terry. You mentioned there is a booklet on the gear box available from the Museum in Auburn. There is no specific gearbox booklet available on their website, we have purchased the owners manual and service manual from them which are currently on the way to us. Any recommendations on where we can purchase any manual specific to the gearbox? Regards Paul (Sarah's husband)

Hi Sarah, Congratulations on your "new" Cord. First I would look at the cross shift and see if when you put the selector switch in 4th gear does the cross shift move to the right? If the cross shift doen't move check the power at the solenoid. if not the problem is up in the selector switch.

If the cross shift does move, check the #5 wire on the cross shift switch and see if there is power there. If there is no pwer then you need to adjust the switch. If there is power check the solenoid. Sorry I don't have my wiring diagram with me so I don't remember whcih wires on the solenoid bank.

This will isolate where your problem is. Good luch and let us know how you make out. I guess I should ask do you have the shift wiring diagrapham?
Jim

Your issue is not uncommon. Jim's article is gold and must be studied. There are also some threads on here that you should probably read front to back. This is one:

It seems you have developed a loose connection .................. somewhere.
It may be up front on the gear box, the gear change switch or somewhere in between. It will be a step by step process of elimination.
Attached are copies of the pages you requested.
There is a booklet on the gear box available from the Museum in Auburn.

We are new cord owners. It seems sometimes we can engage 4th gear, sometimes it needs a wiggle then engages, sometimes no one home. Any ideas? I have the latest cord mag with part 2 on shift switch but can anyone scan part 1. I am happy to buy a back issue but it will take weeks to get to us in NZ. Any suggestions appreciated.
