Saw a Franklin in a 1929 that the owner was complaining brakes grabbed something awful - when we were all diagnosing it someone put on the brakes and you could see the drum flex - someone did not understand that you cannot just turn the drums down to nothing. I had a similar situation on the 1935 Packard Twelve on one rear drum (unfortunately also a drum hard to come by and a year went into the search).

I have seen brake drums machined so thin that the outer dia. of the drum broke off from the hub part of the drum . Also I have seen a brake adjuster come loose inside a Auburn drum and actually puncture the drum. Neither of these were 810/12 Cords though. Just precautions.

On the subject of brake drums it is a good idea to have them balanced.
With the use of a wheel balancing machine it can be done very accurately.
One of my drums was ok the other three were way out. The worst was out by 120 grams.

I have just had mine re-lined , 11" drum and 3/16" shoe thickness I recall. Hopefully some one will confirm.
