Jim my idea was to provide a smooth seal surface so as not to wear down the seals on the bells. Many times shafts on hydraulic cylinders are hard chromed to build them up after years of wear. It makes a great surface for a seal to ride on. I knew about the cad plating but feel its not a smooth surface. I will look deeper into this. I do appreciate yours and Georges comments. You guys have forgotten more about the Cords than I know about them. I'm always amazed with your answers to many questions. Jim your articles in the news letter are very well written.Showing a write-up with pictures is a great way to help everyone.

Gary,
Why hard chrome? Hard chrome is for high loads and heavy wear, neither of which you have here. THe bells were cad plated to provide corrosion resistance and added lubrication. Unless there are other problems this works very well.

My drive shafts are fine Jim. My idea is to hard chrome the bells where the seals slide up n down on the inner universals and the bells to the outer universals that slides left n right as we steer the car.

30 years ago I had my outer joints ceramic coated. Had a friend in that field so the price was right

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHas anyone tried hard chroming the inner and outer CV joints where the seals slide on? Are there any reasons for or against this?
