I sent T-Bird carb. parts to Allstate Carburetor and Fuel injection in Central Islip NY. I have not gotten them back yet so can't comment yet about there results. There web. site says to color a carb. when you send parts only is about $85.00

I have wheel bolts yes. I will check the suspension bolts, I have noticed one looks newer than the other and realised that they are critical ! Changing the length will alter the ride height by the look of it. Like when it snaps it is very low.

Carb. parts can be related. Not too expensive and gas will not take the paint off.

Gary, yes the LH thread surprised me too. I painted my carby silver and later realised it should have been zinc chromate which is kind of pale yellowish green.

Trevor some things to check on your Cord.
Are the wheels held on by nuts or bolts? If nuts then the hubs have been upgraded and probably to steel. If they are short bolts you may still have the original cast wheels hubs which are fragile.
What diameter are the suspension bolts that pass through the traverse spring and up through the trailing arms. The originals had from memory 1/2" threads on the ends .................... these are dangerous. The remedy is to replace them with 3/4" high tensile bolts.

Terry on my carb I found some stripped out threads on the air horn and this same joint warped in the front so gas was leaking out.. I used a lapping stone to flatten everything. So I installed Heli coils on all of them. I also found the accelerator pump lever bolt threads stripped out in the air horn. Seems those a re LEFT HAND THREADS... I bet not many realize this till its too late. I used a molecular metal epoxy to repair it.
Your carb is finished very well.

Trevor there are lots of good modifications that can be done to make a Cord safer more reliable and help to preserve it.
I found the top half of my carburettor was warped slightly allowing it to suck air on the firewall side. See the attached picture, the gap was around 0.010". Some careful machining straightened things up.

Trevor it is basically an air silencer with very basic filtering. Modifying it to take a filter is a step in the right direction. The sheet metal is very thin so cut carefully.
My air filter had been bashed in to allow for a bigger generator in the dim past consequently the opening cut was made close to the inlet end where the copper mesh is located.
Eventually the damaged case was completely repaired making it look as good as new.

I have had mine sitting on the bench for a week while I consider where best to start, this has helped for sure, my gauze has but disappeared so basically has no filter. No brainer as far as I can see.

That is a very interesting picture you posted of the oil bath type air filter.
The Accessory Catalogue for Cords listed one at $15.00 although I have never seen an original one even when visiting Auburn.
It is a good idea to modify the standard air filter to take replacement dry paper filter cartridges. It involves quite a bit of work to cut open the case and remove the original baffles however it all helps to protect the engine .
I have attached the newsletter article showing how to modify the air cleaner. I cut mine at the other end for convenience.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI think the SC filter sat on top of carburetor like modern filters, the standard had a side type mount like a lot of cars of the period because of hood clearance. The unusual thing is they deleted the oil bath filter and used a screen mesh material that needed constant oiling to be efficient. The large chamber is more of a sound muffler as the air flows quickly. When I first encountered these oil bath filters I was amazed at the sludge at the bottom they were very efficient and some oil vapor would pass for further top end lubrication. Some early Duesenberg's were shipped without any air filters. Must have thought better performance without intake filters and exhaust cutouts. Lots of dusty unpaved roads back then.

The 37 Cord had three different air filters. Two were the non supercharged type on one was a supercharged filter. So If you can tell this group what type engine you have I'm sure someone can help you find whats needed. This if the filter for my non supercharged 37 Cord sedan.

My dad purchased a 37 812 phaeton last fall and the estate he purchased the car from has not been able to locate the air cleaner assembly.
This seems to be difficult to find, does anyone have a extra one they would let go of or know where I might find one?
Any help would be greatly appreciated I would love to get my dad out on the road as soon as the weather breaks.
