As Pete mentioned on earlier post, that small slotted screw holds the bracket for the tag light socket and bulb. You need to pull back the burlap to get access to the 3 screws that hold the tag light housing to the trunk lid . You also need to unplug the wire to the tag light.

OK Guys, sorry for the confusion, culpa mea, I was not referring to the licence plate holder, but to the whole Tail Light HOUSING :(

My post should have been titled:
WHAT IS THE SCREW ON MY PICTURE USE FOR?
Followed by this description:
I would like to remove the TAG LIGHT HOUSING assembly so I can paint it, IF POSSIBLE without un-gluing the burlap carpet.
Does any one know what is the purpose of the SINGLE FLAT HEAD SLOTTED screw that I mark on the picture?
Is this screw maybe used to hold the housing onto another bracket underneath it?
P.S Hope this is less Greek to you now!!! :)

Aris how are you able to attach the rear number plate?
The two screws at the bottom of your picture have nuts on the inside of the trunk lid.
What holds them in place when the screws are removed?
You should have a flat metal strip which the two screws pass through.
You then attach the number plate to the metal strip.
See below in the attached picture.

Does not the small screw not hold the bulb bracket in place?

You are correct Pete: if tag light housing is on a Westchester trunk lid, You need to pull back the burlap lining on inside of lid to get access to remove the screws.

Thanks for the reply Gary, yes the two chrome screws are to bolt on the licence plate bracket, however to remove the lens in the past, I removed the metal spring-ring that holds it in place so I do wonder what that other flat screw is for.

That screw in the circle is only to remove the lens so you can replace the bulb. The screws you have loosened are how you remove the complete bracket from the trunk. Remember you have a power wire that has to be disconnected too.

Hi all!
How can I remove the holder without going through the inside of the trunk?
There is a small flat screw as marked on the picture and wonder If by removing it will come off.
I tried it but it wont budge, so before I make some damage, please let me know
Aris
