It should be sprayed on thick with a very bumpy splattered pattern. I use truck bedliner like U-Pol Raptor with a schutz gun set to low pressure. Sometimes the gun comes with the liner material. On my car the undercoating was sprayed directly onto the red primer on both the underside of the body as well as inside the fenders.

I believe under the fenders and the car EVERYTHING was painted chassis black. Its a semi gloss kind of shade. Then sprayed on undercoating got sprayed on after that. The reason for the black paint is to create one solid color under the cars. Many years ago Henry Portz looked at mine and said just hand wire brush it and leave it because it was in such great condition. I have seen many restored Cords with no undercoating in the underside of the fenders.I believe the owners have made mistakes not doing this. It also acts as a sound deadener.

Is the undercoating rubberized or smooth? Was it sprayed or applied with a brush or roller?

Should the undercoating be applied before or after paint?

Red primer everywhere on the inside. Then black undercoating sprayed on all metal seams on floor and trunk, plus on walls of trunk. Also black undercoating on inside of toolbox and underside of body behind and above dash.

My understanding is that red metal primer was used inside the body. You can see from the attached pictures which were taken during the first ever restoration of my Cord Serial No 810 1586A
The cabin floor and sides of the body were sprayed with bitumen body deadner just like under the car. I am not sure about the trunk floor. I suspect that it was also sprayed with bitume body deadner

I believe they were painted with red lead primer but not completely covered. Then the body color was not masked off so overspray was everywhere. If I'm wrong someone will be along to correct me.
