I will "second" Curt via Robert's rules of order for business meetings. My recommendation is to pre fit the nail through the data plate and to pre fit the nail through the cowl and then put a drop of super glue onto the backside of the nail once all is installed so it does not pull through.

34-36 Auburn used drive nails

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

Replied by Jonathan Richards on topic Screws or Rivets for attaching Cowl VIN Plate Properly...
Gary , My experience in examining original Cords is that attachment of Serial and CNC plates are properly by standard round head straight slot metal scres, and NOT rivets, Phillips head screws or other methods.

I believe all Auburn Cord or Duesenberg id plates were fastened by standard slot sheet metal screws. My 37 Cord is like whats shown on the 810 812 Cord section under the posting title...Should I buy it or not. The possible owner has posted an exact picture of the id plate.

I would like to know how to properly re-intall the Cowl VIN Tag Plate, I've seen some attached with screws, Round Head, Philister Head, Pan Head, and some attached with regular pop rivets so what is the best or better way to do it? Car is a 1935 851; Thanks.
