Sorry I did not read the whole thread. Yes you will have to retorque the bolts and re cotter . I would probably use no more than 35 pounds because of the old babbit and streaching the old bolts. T

Please clairify. Are you saying to leave the cotter pins out where they fell out and hope that the castlelated nuts are tight enough and will not loosten? Just clean out the oil pan and reinstall it? Thom

I have read in these forums that torque wrenches were not in use till WWll. I realize this is not answering your question but someone will come along a give a torque specification to today's standards.

It was necessary to remove the oil pan on my 8101 Auburn, engine number GU79817. Surprisingly, there was not much sludge in the bottom; however, there were many pieces of the connecting rod cap cotter pins. Last time the pan was off could have been in 1970, I don't remember. Looking in my literature, I can't fine torque settings for the cap castellated nuts, only spacer measurements. My plan is to check the torque setting without removing the nut and replace the cotter pin. What are your thoughts on this plan and does anyone know what the torque number should be?
