Mark, I sent him some pix that I have of your car.

I still have the old, original seats in my 35 speedster. I can send you pix and measurements if needed. Also, the leather has swirl patterns from the factory

The information I have is for 31-33 Speedsters, I'm not sure it is the same for the later model but if the dimensions are different you could probably interpolate the differences.
For the backrest:
26" overall height
10 pleats at 3-1/4" wide
2 end pleats at 3-3/4"
Length of pleats approximately 20"
Large flat area approximately 5"
Seat Bottom:
Same as backrest
26" overall length
20" long pleats
5" wide flat
Hope this helps.
Pat

Thanks Curt for your comments. I did considerable research on various Speedsters and came to the conclusion that an Elegant Motors replica was the one for me rather than a later Glen Pray car which has several significant body features that I do not like (raised hump on body near rear wheel arch, number of exhaust exits, fuel filler location and style ...). I agree the very limited run of early Glen Pray cars are fabulous and very desirable, but are so rare and difficult to find....I’d love to have one....maybe one day.

Anyway, I’m looking for an answer to the simple upholstery question I posed at the start of this post. ...
1) are the 13 leather strips of equal size on an original 851 speedster
2) what is approximate location of the large horizontal leather strip that goes on the top and bottom seat bases. Is it matching the location in the photo I supplied.

The drawing you refer to from Stan, I’m told via a pm from another club member, do not specify if the thirteen strips of leather are even. In fact, the drawings show the outer edge pieces are in fact larger than the 11 remaining pieces.

I would have thought someone in the club judges original 35/36 speedster cars and can quickly give me the answer. If that person(s) is not on the forum, I just need their name and phone number.

Many thanks

Stan is a Auburn / Cord parts supplier in Wellington Kansas. Be mindful that there were over 20 different makers of reproduction speedsters. I'll go on record saying there are no two alike. Some are much more true to the originals than others. In my opinion, the early speedsters produced by Glen Pray are the ones to have.

I don’t know who Stan is I’m afraid. I’m also hoping that the questions I have posed are pretty simple for a knowledgeable person on these models to answer.

I should have also said that it is for an Auburn 851 speedster replica that I’m restoring.

I have a photo of a seat from an Auburn and I’m trying to determine if it is an original accurate pattern. There are thirteen strips of leather that appear to be the equal size. The next question concerns the large flat panels on both the base and back seat sections....are they in the correct location - that is, a bit less than half way from the edge of the panel. I’m currently building a seat with my upholsterer and I’d like to recreate a seat as close as possible. Many thanks Jerome
