Well, I found the frame numbers, but since the frame was painted, they are very faint.
How many should I find? Does anyone have a suggestion on how to make them pop a bit more short of sanding? Is there any particular sequence I should see? (I'm guessing the numbers might be 1 2 3 7).
Thanks to all!

I believe unsold 1935 851's were readied as new 1936 models with the 852 numbers

Auburn 851

Yes it is a 851 by the serial numbers you posted. There is a frame number on the right side around where the rhd steering gear holes are, let me know what those numbers say? R

Thanks Randy.
So if the numbers are original, does that mean I have a 1935 851 (I thought 852's were only 1936s)? Are there numbers anywhere else on the car to verify one way or the other?

Hello .The central body number starts at 101 so your car is the 540th body built . The serial number for 852 starts for non supercharged cars at 4501 so your number is 1813 car built in 1935 not 1936. Does that help ?Randy

I'm sure this topic has been approached dozens (hundreds?) of times, but I'm curious about what the numbers on plates in our 1936 Cabriolet refer to. There is a plate under the passenger side seat that reads "Central Manufacturing Company L-85 641". The plate that I believe should be on the inside of the fire wall (mines on the engine side) has Model 852, Serial Number 2814F and Engine number GG4800.

Can anyone decode these and let me know they mean? I'm always eager to learn!
