Many builders use bronze bearings in place of the babbit. The factory let the cam run in the cast iron block except for the front . Over time the the holes become oval and low oil pressure is a result. My builder puts bronze bushings in all of the cam bearings.

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

Great close up photos, the early eights had a full set of bronze camshaft bearings, it looks like the later ones had only the front bearing replaceable with the others being cast iron, initially bronze then steel backed babbit. I have attached info from the Auburn 8-77 handbook. Auburn service bulletin number 10 and two pages from the "manual for Auburn service mechanics8-98 and 8-98A"
