Brad, you can buy parkerizing kits on eBay, the instructions are easy to follow.
Stainless steel blackening can be purchased at Caswell. This is even easier, no heat required.

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

How does one 'parkerize ' a modern fastener? And can you do it with stainless if one was 'nuts' enough to ? Any tips?
I've painted other fasteners on the car but that is messy and , as I'm sure you know, doesn't look quite right.

Mark, your car takes 20. They are flat-sided bolts that slide down the channel. Use square nuts, all parkerized black.
My 31 and 32 are the same, but take fewer fasteners.

I used the same clips, but instead of removing spring, I sanded off some of the top edge.
If you want to sell me the rest of your clips let me know. email is [email protected]

Thanks for the answers and pictures, Debby and I got them drilled and installed last night. I ended up having to use some Chrysler molding clips I picked up from Fasenal to slide into the outer strip. I had to cut off the spring end but they worked great.

Had to buy a box of 50 to get 10 :)

On an 851 and 852 I believe the original nut is square - you may want to ask about what is original 31 /32.

Curtiss: On my 36 Auburn, I ended up drilling extra holes near the ends of the trim to help hold the trim in tighter.
Then re-positioned the fasteners as needed. (No one noticed the difference in the amount of holes)

I just received new running board side stainless and no holes were pre-drilled. I picked up some molding mount clips from Fastenal that look like they will work to secure the outer molding so not I need to figure out how many holes were typically drilled to mount these.

It appears in the last restoration the old holes were filled in so would one of you be able to look to see how many studs you have holding the running board stainless on?

Thanks!
