The service book from Auburn for 8-98 gives the procedure for oiling the fan bearing.

Curt,
The machine screw is for oiling the fan bearings. About once a year I rotate the fan so the screw is up and use machine oil to fill the hole. I let it sit for a while and then rotate the fan so the hole is half way down and let the oil flow out. Once it stops flowing I tighten the screw. If you don't oil the fan it can freeze up and then all hell breaks loose.

I have dissembled the fan and shaft assembly. I have the feeling there is something amiss with the oilier
There is this machine screw plugging the hole in the pressed in brass tube. I think I am missing something <!-- s:?: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_question.gif" alt=":?:" title="Question" /><!-- s:?: -->
