I own an earlier model than yours, the up and down free play should be negligible, the thrust bearings on mine are "Nice" brand see attached, if you need to shim I would shim under thrust bearing.

Hello I’m installing new king pins, bearing and bushings in my 8-100 auburn. They old ones I took out are on the bottom and had a ford part number on the bearing and no shims installed. The spindle if car jacked up would move up and down maybe 1/8”. Upon installing the new one should spindle have no play in it between bearing and axle. Also if shims are required where do they install. Any help is appreciated thanks.
