The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

When we did the 1931 Cadillac's in the 70's we were one of the many doing them. When I did the 31 Packard 833 Touring in the 90's I was probably already 10 plus years too late to the party and it was miserable to find parts for it - now another 20 years later is has become even more hard. Curt, you have been a blessing as to parts for the Auburn, though when you started those many years ago there were 4 or 5 + others very active in parts and as time has gone by .....

The big problem is just trying to figure out what is the most important to continue with the restoration. I need so much it's overwhelming at times.

What is the "Factory way" for the convertible top at the windshield?
Some have the chrome (?) plate and other appear to just cover the front bow.
Thanks!

I'm not surprised at all that it's not Auburn. Whoever put it on at least didn't mess up the holes that were there.
Thanks

I think I know the answer to this, but here goes. Is the rearview mirror mounting different between the coupe and cabriolet? I think what I have here is a coupe mirror?
It looks like it is using the proper hardware and is fitting holes that I see on other Auburns.
Thanks in advance!

I have to recreate most of the internal wood structure, and I've started at the B-pillar or where the door hinges mount. On the metal cap that goes over the wood upright there is a bump out at the bottom, but non of the old upright wood parts have this bump out on them.
Is this supposed to be hollow, or have all the wood parts just happen to be rotted away in this area. The thing that makes me question rot is the fact that all the wood surface is still black as it was painted.
Thanks in advance

Is the area painted red at the top of the horizontal wood (between the two vertical pieces) covered in metal?
Any other photos you might have of your restoration would be a great help too
Thanks!

I will purchase those two pieces from you, definitely! (G3990RH ? G3991LH)
I'm also putting together a list of parts for the top I need.
Thanks

Note on the second photo the threaded area with the red lines going to it. What does this attach to in the shelf area in back? Does it just go through a wood piece with a hole in it, or is it into a metal part mounted to the wood structure in some way?
If anyone has photos of a cabriolet in the restoration phase that shows the wood work, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!

I checked every page of the 34 Parts book and mine does not have a blow up of the top. I did get this from the museum, but it was quite awhile back, it's not even bound like the prints they sell now.
If possible, can someone scan that diagram and make a pdf of it? It will probably answer a lot more questions...if not create new ones.

The batch I found today looks like a small top bow and a large top bow. I'm pretty sure the small one is Auburn as it matches a sketch I did off one in the early 2000's. (The small bow is incased in metal, wood showing on top) The large one has a metal piece hanging off it, but I don't know if they go together. The last pictures are of some wood pieces, I am assuming are from behind the seat??
