Good evening Curt,
Not to add any advice to this link but for my own understanding of the mechanics of a distributor, am I correct that if the motor is doing 1500 RPM then the distributor will be doing 750 RPM.
Because the distributor weights are spinning, all be it backwards, they will still move out from centrifugal force and adjust the lobe as normal.
But because the distributor is going in reverse then the adjustment from the weights will actually retard the ignition timing?
Do you think this is correct?
Regards, Allen.

Since there is no advance, I guess you could say it is mechanical retarded.

Would I be correct to say that you would get a mechanical retarding at 1500?

Goes flat at 1500 because you get no mechanical advance with dist. turning the wrong way. By the way a side note about dist. Just had a friends dist. on sun mach. and installed NOS points. No fire on either set of points. after scratching our heads for a while decided to rubber wheel the contact surfaces of the points and they worked perfectly. Never had that happened before.

Funny thing is, It will start right up, but go flat around 1500 RPM.
You really do not need the dual points until the engine revs close to 5 grand. It is all about the advance curve. There is a guy out east that experimented with an IGP4002, and made it run just like an IGH4027. He is out on the AACA board.

Sidenote: I have seen people try to pick up Cord distributors thinking they will substitute - NOPE, I believe the issue is that a Cord rotates in opposite direction.
