I live in Chicago now have been here the last 25years , aside from that I would not mind a picture of the car today as is has sentimental meanings. I did look on the World wide web and there is 34 6cylinder for sale not restored for $39,000 there was others foe $105,000 .Bear in mind those are restored to a 100% the car you have has a great story it is right hand drive suited for Europe. The cylinder head has been welded it has the wrong carburetor and the casting on the soft top have also been welded. that is the history of the car when it left South Africa. Please if this car ever lands up in the USA i would be the first to go and visit. Would probably as k an expert on Pricing a 1936 Cord from South Africa is in the Beaulie Museum

No Idea about was was the outcome but it was all in the UK it was Late 80's the previous owner ran an add in a sports /classic car mag looking for the same info. I spoke to him on the phone his comments were that possibly needed a testimony but he felt the car drove well but felt He paid to much in exchange if it was not a film star car !

The car is a 1934 Auburn 850Y # 2310H engine GG2044 body L68-143 My lae Father Alf Harris was the 3rd owner of the car is original owner was a sales manager at Robinson Moss ? the agency for Auburn /Cord .South Africa . The car was sold to a Mr Bessenger who restored the car and sold it to a person in Europe. Added fake photo

I do not think that is Clark Gable in the 1934 (even photoshopped) and not a period photo (but good guess nevertheless and I think someone is trying to recreate a famous Gable photo) - I would say from look of car (and tires) that the photo is newer than 1975.

I am guessing the engine number is GG2044 (may have come out as CC2044). The serial number is not ringing a bell as to what we should be looking for in a number. The rest of car information is on the plate on the passenger's side of the firewall and the side of frame number is on frame rail under passengers front fender and probably should be within 1000 of the serial number.

It is a 1934.

And it does appear to be RHD, so that makes it harder to identify as not as many "car detectives/enthusiasts" as there are in US to identify.

I think what Randy was referring to is the fact that this photo you posted has obviously been doctored. Someone inserted Clark Gable into this Auburn photo by taking his likeness from a different photo. Namely him sitting in his Duesenberg J-560.

Jim is correct - there is no enlargement function on these posts other than a single click on the photo), so you may have to take several photos of your sheet of paper so detail can be deciphered.

As to Year 1934
As to body Style: Phaeton
As to Series: 850 if an 8 cylinder
I also note you have a European License Plate on the car ?
