I wish I could describe some obscure and mysterious fix but truth be told, I got in touch with Denny Akers here in the Seattle area and Denny put me in touch with a fellow who understood the problem immediately and had the experience to accomplish the fix. In a nutshell, he drilled a small hole at the interior end of the fissure and then rewelded the fissure.
During the course of the restoration of my 8-105, I've had the pleasure to come in touch with a number of older people with years of experience with obscure problems. Most of these fixes are not accomplished overnight--for them, time is not measured by sweep hand on the clock, so patience is required.
If anyone in the Northwest needs help, call me and I'll be happy to connect you with an old-timer with whom I've become acquainted.

Contact a top end restoration shop in your area and see who they use.

Does anyone have suggestions for a "good" plating shop in the Northwest... or anywhere for that matter?

"GOOD" plating shops can handle that kind of work. Have the shop plate it also, so all the responsibility is on one shop.

I assume it becomes a "silver solder" project as you need to weld with a material that will accept plating ?

I need help! The front bumper for my 8-105 Salon was damaged years ago and I need to find someone who is capable of working on Spring Steel. Any suggestions would be quite welcome.
