I've been "lurking" around the auburn speedsters website and marketplace for years lusting for an Auburn Speedster. Thanks for the suggestion.

I would suggest you visit
www.auburnspeedsters.com
and introduce your self to Mark Tyra. He is one of the good guys.

Dear Gents,

I recently purchased the 1936 Auburn 852 Speedster mentioned in this thread. The car is in "like new" condition and, as the pictures show, is an accurate representation of a 1936 852 Speedster. It has many original 1936 852 Speedster components and parts and is so accurate that, until you lift the original engine bonnet and reveal the 428 Ford big block in the spotless engine compartment, you can't tell it's not an original.

I've been doing research on the car and spoken to Felix De Gyter at ACD in Oklahoma. He believes this car started as a Glenn Pray "Original Bodied Speedster"- Approximately 12-15 of these were made- A combination of original Speedster parts & accessories, Glenn Pray Speedster fiberglass panels, modified Ford chassis, V8 engine, drive train & brakes. Shipped partially assembled, with final assembly done by the buyer.

This car reflects the information from Felix De Gyter- It appears to be a 1967 Ford Galaxie front and rear suspension (front disc brakes and rear drum brakes) with a custom channel chassis welded in between. The car is powered by a 428 Ford V8 with a Ford 3-Speed automatic transmission and drive train. Unlike other "Glenn Pray" second generation Speedsters it has an original Speedster grill and hood. The V8 has special headers that route the exhaust to the four functional pipes on the driver side, per the original.

The remainder of the car, front and rear fenders, doors, and rear body, is Glenn Pray fiberglass panels.

The car is loaded with original Speedster components and parts from front to rear- front bumper, Trippe driving lights, siren, grille, headlights, spotlights, all original dash with working gauges, radio- including the under body antenna, steering wheel and ignition switch, emergency hand brake, heater, tail lights, rear bumper, wire wheels and Auburn hubcaps. Other trim parts are probably original, including hood badge and ornament, Supercharged badge, exhaust pipes, windshield, wind wings, door handles, door side step plates, and rear fender stone guards.

While this Speedster was not completely assembled at the Glenn Pray factory, whoever did the final build on this car was a professional. The fit and finish is as good as any new car.

My wife and I took her out for our first "joy ride" this last weekend. I own a 2011 C6 Corvette, which is a pretty good head turner, but it doesn't compare to this Speedster. Everywhere you go people approach you with smiles and questions. When we're driving folks are honking horns and waving. What a treat! I feel very lucky to be the owner-caretaker of this Auburn.

I look forward to corresponding with and meeting other Auburn and Second Generation Auburn owners.

The really early ones had Lycoming engines with superchargers, on Auburn frames with Auburn gages, Stabilite headlights etc. That is the speedster to have.

It even has cowl vents which is of real value in a speedster. Many cars don't.

It is, tho my preference would be one of the real early ones Glenn made with this engine and the 4-speed.
