Connersville Meet

CONNERSVILLE REGIONAL MEET

AUGUST 26-28, 2022

CONNERSVILLE: E.L. CORD’S LEGACY-MORE THAN AUTOMOBILES

Let us begin with the introduction of Connersville’s ACD MiniMeet’s new calendar date, August 26th-28th, 2022. An introduction suggests a purpose and a plan.  Our purpose is to highlight the shared histories of E.L. Cord’s automotive empire with an emphasis on their similarities as well as the unique features of each.  The plan centers around all the activities of the weekend that focus on each member’s ACD passion and “The Cars”.  Randy Ema, the featured speaker for our banquet is an internationally known ACD historian and speaker, as well as a collector and restorer of these wonderful cars.

The Connersville Regional ACD Meet will be held August 26-28 in 2022.  The activities planned are worth the wait after the past two years’ cancellations due to Covid; but more on all activities in the next issue.  Your Connersville Meet will end in time for the annual Auburn festivities.  Auburn is a little over a two hour drive from Conersville and can be driven on Indiana Highway #1, where the Connersville Cars were tested.  During this year’s meet, we are going to tell you about Cord’s little known AVCO holdings in Connersville, his work with the war effort and production during WWII, and how a young man, Lloyd “Slim” Davidson became one of Cord’s “right hand men”.  Slim was a man unknown by most club members and not recognized in Cord’s history.

We will present this fascinating piece of automobile history as if we are opening a time capsule.  But, with this time capsule, you will be standing where the events actually happened.  Slim Davidson was a creative genius and would take Cord and his AVCO Corporation into areas few have ever heard of.  As a tease, the culmination of many of the early events in Connersville led to the AVCO banner flying over a facility that was responsible for ICBM parts on the first nuclear submarine, the Polaris, as well as many other military achievements.  It is a wild and untold tale lost in history.

Oh, and did I mention anything about auto air conditioning?

So, bring your Sherlock Holmes deerslayer cap, your favorite pipe, and join us to investigate more of Connersville’s automotive history.  Who knows–maybe Dr. Watson will show up!.
