Sometimes spraying the head gaskets with a thin film of Hylomar will cure leaks that shouldn't appear after a good rebuild. Spray Hylomar is commonly used at the Rolls Royce factory for the jet engine assembly. Severl members of the Oilburners.net forum use it to help seal head gaskets on the older IDI diesels. Those engines have around 500+lbs of cranking compression. My engine has 530 lbs.

Standard bore, new head, block and head planed. However, not torqued multiple times (20,30,40,45, run for 10, 45 again) or in the proper sequence which will happen this time. Plus he's using a spacer on the head bolts to make sure the gasket doesn't move.

Are you using the big bore gasket or the standard bore? Is head and block flat? Are you retorquing the head multiple times? I had to remove right fender to remove and install to clear supercharger drive houising.
CORDially Mike

My dad will go to his grave convinced that those engines are gray so that one is too. As a team player I'm in with him :-). The lighting is bad in the picture so I guess it's hard to tell the color.

The engine was completely done, installed and running and he was getting water in the oil pan. Out it came to get torn down again. The final conclusion was that the head gasket had gotten pinched somehow as they could find nothing wrong with the block. It is ready to go back in again.

Al: Looks yummy! I see you changed the engine color back to green, or is that a different speedster?

Sometimes, I think the assembly is the fun part of owning these cars.

Interesting. I just figured out from your post that a bunch of pictures I've been linking only display for me. The Auburn should display now.
