Yep, that's our John. I worked part-time at the museum back in the early/mid 90's and got to know him pretty well.

Also see him a few times when he comes out to the dealership to get his vehicle looked at. :D

Will John be working the Tuesday morning before ACD Festival weekend?

I think it was Ora Shoudel, not Shoudek. And Butler's first name was Ralph, in U.S. spelling.

Otherwise, great IDing, Torsten.

I salute everyone for the info, it must have been an exciting place to be in the fifties, parts stacked high. I understand this went on right where the ACD showroom is located.
You have to have a lot of respect for Ralph Butler to have done all those interiors.

In 1948 Dwight Batdorf rebuilt the transmission for my 812 Westchester. In 1952 Ralph Butler , who was the Cord parts man & very talented trimmer, made & installed a complete new interior & top on my S/C Cord cabriolet. Ralph was also a very nice person. This car was featured in the September 1956 Motor Trend magazine. Joe Bortz has owned this car for many years & has kept it in good condition. It was on display at the museum 2006 Labor Day week end. I got to drive it , first time since 1956 ! Ran great ! Met John McQuown at that time (he was the youngster in the picture next to Batdorf & doing the valve job on the Cord engine)! We enjoyed the get together. 31631F Henry

Of course, no offense taken, and yes I will have to concede that comparing at that level of accomplishment was an overstatement, I stand corrected.

I just learned of there contributions and was surprised there was no info on these men.

OK, and the answers, left to right are,
Russel Silberg, Ora Shoudel, Ralph Butler, Howard Carper, John McQuown, Dwight Batdorf.

Don't get me wrong. There's a lot to be said for hard-working, clean-living people who put in an honest days work. I am sure these men contributed to keeping ACD cars on the road.

I just think this statement was a little over the top....

Mechanics are the life blood of this sport. They are the doctors of these buggy's we admire so much.

I was always amazed as a kid when the corner filling station could patch my bicycle tire with a black patch that that they would light with a match to heat the rubber and make the patch stick good.

And hey, they had a electric machine that could pump my bike tires up. And tools!

They had chrome crescent wrenches and even fancy socket wrenches that we would surely never be able to afford to buy. Oh, the way the bays had roll up doors to keep out the bad weather.

With a ice box that held sodas there was hours of listening to the tires running over the bell to tell there was a customer reddy for a fill up.

And even a private privy.

Oh, the days.

Why? There were many that contributed to the manufacture, but if these men had not been where they were there, would not be nearly as many survivors as there are today. They would rebuild Speedsters and Blown 812 Cords at the rate of 10-12 a year. They could supply parts for an ailing car. They rebuilt 60-70 engines a month at $310. They were forgotten except for Dallas Winslow.
I was hoping someone was on the repair floor during that time, they would be 70+ years or more in 2008 as this was 50 years ago.

Not sure who they are... but the many times I've walked the halls of the ACD Museum alone after the museum has closed; I'd say they could be ghosts. <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt="" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->

As a dealing with them....

Al Leamy's light came on one night as Matt Short and I were standing outside after turning off all the lights in the building.

Hello Without pulling the file and identifying the captions I would say you have the boys at Dallas Winslows A&gt;C&gt;D&gt; co of Auburn Indiana the early 1950s. Randy
