On this date in 1938 race car driver Billy Winn was killed when he crashed during a race in Springfield, Illinois. Winn was the driver of car #2 when the Cord won the Stevens Trophy at Indianapolis in 1937. Ab Jenkins took over Winn's car when the #1 Cord broke a hub.
