I had this response from Jon Bill, archivist at acd museum:

"In the U.S., the term "Speedster" was first used in the late 1920s by automobile manufacturers to denote their sport-like models. With most, but not all, the rear end of the car resembled the inverted front-end of a boat; thus the term "Boattail Speedster". Auburn first built a prototype speedster in 1927 and introduced the model to the public in the 1928 model year. We have in our collection a 1911 Metallurgique racer (built in Belgium) that has a boattail. We believe that it is one of the first applications of that body style."

Anyone knows what does the term speedster mean exactly?
Where does it come from?
Who first used it for in car designation? and When?
