I have a 600 cubic inch 1925 Sterling Dolphin engine with 4 valves per cylinder and only 2 push rods per cylinder

Hello Mike,

when you follow the (Old Motor) link that DavidK posted, you will find a "Vimeo" Video and when you stopp it @1.29 min. running time, you will have a good view to the valve train.

Here is the link to the video

vimeo.com/113158655

It looks like that there are three! tappets for each cylinder on the camshaft, so one pair of valves (intake or outlet?) will be pushed by a spread rocker lever.

Cheers

Hello Mike,

I don't know how it works in that engine. It is possilble that it works with "spreaded" rocker arms/lever -> one arm/lever moves both valve on the intake (or outlet) side. So (for a four cyl. engine) there is only one camshaft (with 8 tappets on it) needed.

An example (in a different type of engine) for spreaded rocker arms are the early Harley Davidson 8 Valve Racer OHV (not OHC) engines. Two valves are driven by one "spreaded" rocker lever -> one tappet (and pushrod)

Here you will find a picture:

Hello Mike,

according to the following link, that has an overhead camshaft and four valves per cylinder.

The displacement per cyl. is about 7.1 ltr (433 cui) <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->
