Actually, its not easy. The current software is running on a Windows server. The new software runs on a Linux server. Since Windows is not case-sensitive and Linux IS case sensitive, we run the risk of breaking years worth of links to old photos.

I'm trying to find a tool that will

a) convert the existing file and folder names to all lowercase (easy)
b) scour the forums and convert all links to lowercase (not so easy)
c) convert from phpBB software to another that is Mobile Friendly. (moderate)

In Germany we have a site " www.picr.de ", this is really easy, even to me !
Just open the site, click a button for choosing pictures from your computer, then this site makes the upload, finally a "copy and paste" of the resulting link into the forum post. Thats it. Nothing else needed.
I am pretty shure there is something similar in US.
Just do it, Greg <!-- s;-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";-)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;-) -->

Hi Greg,

The short answer is no easy way - you have to host the photos online somewhere and then link to them in your post. Not a very straightforward process for novice computer folks and it also is subject to problems. If, after posting, you ever move any of the hosted photos you *also* have to edit your old posts to update the links or you will lose all of the photos in your posts.

The easy way to do this is to be able to upload photos from your computer directly to the forum and have the forum store them (such as the AACA, CCCA and many other forums will do). I believe this capability will be present in the upgraded ACD forum but I'm not sure what the schedule is for the upgrade - Bill can you please comment?

In the meantime if you send me an email telling me what you're trying to do I would be glad to put it together for you and host the images and get it posted. <a href="mailto:[email protected]][email protected][/url]

Hi Greg- I put my pics in "photobucket" which is a free site with mega storage. (I have like 500 pics and am like 4% full) There are others like 'picasa' and 'shutterfly' (to name a few)
set up an account, you just load the pics from your computer. it IS easy, really.
each photo has a url number (in photobucket)This url (universal resource locator) is [i:2ii018cs]where[/i:2ii018cs] the photo actually resides on the 'net.
(think of it as a photo hanging above your desk)
so, what you are doing in a fancy, superfast way, is 'pointing' everyones computer to look at the URL (your photo above desk) by saying to the computers go to Indiana, Monroeville, gregs house, go inside, past the kitchen, to the den, above the desk... THAT! Display THAT photo to the entire world!
Make sense?
you can 'backtrack' photos also that way. find one of the parts pics I have posted, right click on it, and look at 'properties'.
it will say something dumb like http:// www.blahblahblah14.jpg (for example)
click on all of that garbage (actually the URL I'm talking about) so it is highlighted.
right click on that highlighted stuff, a box will pop open- hit 'copy'

Now open another window, (google for example) On the very top of your new screen (like where THIS current screen says http://forums.phpstack-1081784-3880776.cloudwaysapps.com....6744) right click on that long skinny bar, and a little box opens again. this time hit 'paste'.
the blahblahblah14.jpg will be in the long skinny box now.
hit 'enter', and the photo will be there. same photo, but NOT in the ACD site.
We have looked at the same photo above your desk, but we are peering thru your dining room window (for example) this time.
I hope this helps.
