Let your mom know that many ACD members enjoyed the carvings she did on the pumpkins! And thanks to you, Chris, for sharing them with us.

The original J O'Lantern was the only one made from a real pumpkin, and rotted before I had a chance to see it. This year, Mom redid the SSJ in foam, this time going for a bit more detail. It took seven hours of hot knife carving, including scraping the "wire wheels."
Presenting J O'Lantern 2010, "SSJ 3D."
It's a bit early, but Happy Halloween from the Summerses.

Good point, Mark! Next year I'll see if she can use the 1930s photo of a Duesenberg Model J Ladies Berline being weighed on WWII scrap scales. That picture always gives me nightmares...

She bought a foam pumpkin, with an electric light source inside, and carved it using a "hot knife," all acquired at the local craft store. The knife has a handle like a soldering gun, with a tip that is an Xacto blade. It heats to 750 degrees F!

Maybe it can be preserved for Al Ferara and his legendary Gable SSJ.

Watercolors.
Incidentally, she's an 810/812 person, but the SSJ is her favorite Duesenberg.

This year I can't make it home from college for Halloween--my favorite holiday--so Mom decided to create something in my honor to keep her company while handing out candy.
In her words: "Took five hours, but I think Clark Gable would be proud."
Sorry for the large photos...smaller ones lacked the full effect.
