right gear reduction box with one in shaft and two output shafts. some of the old sprint cars had a steering gear similar to that

This must be the famous "Restore while driving" machine, sometimes called "back to NOS-box". You need to attach this machine at the firewall and within the next 100 miles the car will become a condition "as bad as new".

Like Randy,I have NO idea either.Take it apart and let us see,as Abe Lincoln said of the Spencer rifle,"The inwardness of the thing". Did I see a cam lobe or was it something else?

I am guessing that it is a Duesenberg J "chassis computer" for the lubrication system.
can any of you confirm this?
