That's one of the reason finding period articles is so hard to find on Fred and Augie. Alot of times in the early years it was misspelled. One of the most common spellings is Dusenberg.

The race was on September 16th, 1904 at the Des Moines, IA fairgrounds. The event was documented in the Des Moines Register Newspaper on September 16 and 17th on page 2. Sorry I could not attach the file is to big to up load.

I don't know the exact answer for you but after some searching I believe the race was in July of 1905 at the Cerro Gordo County Fair in Mason City, IA. If one could access the Mason City Globe-Gazette or the Waterloo Daily Courier from 1905 then one could research further.
Both newspapers are still in existence so perhaps contacting them would yield something constructive?
