The current issue of HMN has a one page article with photos of J-329/2345. I found it interesting the author chose to describe the Murphy convertible sedan as a "tub".

Does anyone have a picture to post here? I have never seen a bad looking Murphy convertible sedan and "tub" is not a description but probably an opinion.

"Tub" used to be a fairly common nickname for a phaeton.

I havent seen the article, but would assume that his word choice harkens back to that old slang usage.

Hello Bob,

here is a link to an old photo of J-329, I don't know if that Body-Design is the original (as build in 1931) Murphy design.

For me it looks like the car has been restyled in the "Zeitgeist" of the late 30ies/early 40ies

I think this car has been restored to look like it should. This make over IMHO was one of the better looking jobs and as Melvin Clemans used to say,it wasn't remade to look like a 1937 Plymouth.
I have never heard "tub"used as a description but have used "crate" and "heap" one more than one occasion myself.

The "Hemmings" article was a mini-version of a larger article in "Hemmings Classic Car "some time back.
