Identify a Duesenberg

1st photo late 1930s or early 1940s chicago second photo as new at Taggert park Indy

One might even wonder if both photos are of the same car. Obvious differences are the full wheel discs and front bumper but those are easily removed so not much to go on.

In the first photo, I do notice a small sticker on the lower right corner of the front windshield, maybe that is some sort of state inspection sticker that one of our astute members could identify for purpose of pinning down the locale?

On the other hand, maybe we're already sure that both photos are of the same car?

Well, it sure looks like it is a Weymann (La Grande) Torpedo Phaeton. However, it may be that my father did not take these photos. The second photo appears a book ?Duesenberg the mightiest american motor car? by J. L. Elbert, the 1951 edition on page 57 plate 15. If he did not take them where he got from I do not know. It looks like the second photo is an ?as built? photo and the first photo is of the car at a later date. You can see wear on the car. Mr. Kerns, the photo is too burry to read the license plate even in the original photo.

Anyone know the license plate in the first photo? I've seen old Canadian plates with that format but can't make out any of the words.

J511/2542 has a history in California. Not trying to say its the same car in question here, just that its same style.

These photos of a Duesenberg were in my father photo collection. Maybe taken in southern Californa between 1946 and 1950. Anybody recognize it.
