Steve,
You took the words right away from me. Sinister is a good description. A "J"with similar, proportionate styling would look mean enough to eat hay. I like the closely set headlights and the cycle fenders. Possibly the best looking pre-"J" Duesenberg in captivity.

It is nice to finally see some good & fairly recent pictures of it. It looks a good deal better in these views than I would have expected. Losing the luggage rack doesn't hurt either!

Chris:
You nailed it right on the head again~~~

The Springfield Rolls~Royce & the Model "J" Duesenberg both used #6 Buffalo Wire Weel Corp of America wheels and almost the exact same locking hubs & hub unlocking wrench !

This Model "A" also has the same wheels, hubs, & tires !

The Drum headlights look like very early C M Hall headlights ~~~~ similar to the Springfield Rolls~Royce Silver Ghost & early Phantom I

You guys are very observant. The car was supposedly returned to the factory in 1927 and was upgraded with new hubs, wheels with balloon tires, steering and headlights. When I had custody of the car I was told that the tires had been on the car since sometime before World War II. I always parked it on axle stands.

Steve if you look at the old photos Chris posted for me, it looks more like a J steering column than an A in that shot too.

My Father once said that the Model "A" Dueseys ~
"Have a face and body that only a mother could love !"

I do however like this car~~~
Add the fact that it was the very FIRST Model "A" Duesey ever built and this makes it's history much more interesting .

You could wear your Top Hat to the opera in this coupe' !

Are those early C M Hall drum headlamps ?
What happened to the Bausch & Lomb lenses that were pictured in the 1956 photo ?

They look very similar to, but not exactly like ,
the lamps on my USA-built Springfield Rolls~Royce Silver Ghosts & Phantoms !

1919 Duesenberg Model A ? was created by JAMENG
I stored this Duesenberg from '88-'03 for the Castle family. It was allegedly built for the present owner's great uncle, a friend of the Duesenberg brothers, in 1919, two years before the Model A was built for the general public. I rebuilt the hydraulic brake system, had Randy Ema's shop build an original dimensioned gas tank and made it drivable for the first time since 1959. Sometime around 2003 Randy visited my shop and confirmed that it is indeed the first Model A. I prepared it and the owner entered it in the 2003 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance preservation category. Below are a couple of photos of the car in my driveway, one at the Concours and one shot of a certain Tonight Show host behind the wheel in my storage barn.
