Another one of my interests along with fine single shot long range rifles both muzzle and breech loading. I was in a local flying club here for several years and we buzzed around and terrified the clouds with a couple of Stearman's,a Cessna 195,a Stinson Voyager,a Piper J3 and a Taylorcraft that was referred to as a "Maytag Messerschmidt". There was an occasional visit from other enthusiasts flying Great Lakes and WACO bi -planes and even a Seabee amphibian. There was also a PT 19 with an inverted Ranger engine that used oil measure in quarts per hour along with the gas it drank.
Steam locomotives are another strong interest to me. The bigger they were, the better. Three all time favorites were the C&O's H8's,a 2+6+6+6 monsters we saw nearly every day here in Huntington. The second was the N&W's Y6's.a 2+8+8+4 they built in their own shops at Roanoke,Va. The third was never seen here and they were the Union Pacific's "Big Boy's".a 4+8+8+4 brute oriinally built as helpers for lesser engines with too heavy loads.
These to me represent an America that was an industrial monster and occured way before the advent of wall to wall fast food places and a generation of young people
with their noses stuck in a screen of some kind.

I think you are correct on the date Chris. Most of the dated photos seem to be 1950-55.

John, I have no record of J-330 / 2346 ever being owned in Connecticut. (I will agree with you on its condition, however!) The only Murphy Convertible Coupe that fits is J-500 / 2517.

Perhaps J 330 a disapearing top Murphy - one of few J's that has been incredibly nice since day 1.

Joe, to me that license plate looks more like "50" than "58," in which case the possibility that this is J-500 / 2517 still exists.

Chris;
As a researcher/historian it isn't every day you get a piece of the puzzle like this, ]with something you are trying to track down..

Joe, I sent you a PM with my email. Thanks much in advance as always.

Still working on pinning an ID to the car. I had guessed that it would be Murphy Convertible Coupe J-500 / 2517 but I was wrong - wrong interior and hood. Anyone else who feels like venturing a guess, educated or otherwise :D , have at it.

I swear I've seen this car with the upside-down bumper before but can't place it.

The Duesie looks to be in unusually good condition for the era. Most of the classics were suffering from neglect and misuse back in the early part of the 60's.

Love the photos, thanks for sharing!

No denying its a beautiful car. Here is another shot outside Dad's shop, in the Bronx, from his negative. Reading through the other posts on here, it seems there were a good number of ACD cars in various Bronx, and nearby, shops and wrecking yards...
* Chris, you can see that the interior is rather a dark shade.

Mike. Your post got me thinking... I suppose there IS a possibility they mounted it that way on purpose, for a bit of difference? Everything esle looks very carefully done. In the very high res scans, you can see from the reflections of light, all along the body and hood etc, that all the body panels are perfectly straight, and smooth mirror-finish paint. etc.

Not the first one we've seen pictured with the bumper mounted that way. All things considered, while I prefer it right side up, it doesn't look bad.

I only opened this about 5 minutes ago and that is the first thing I noticed, the bumper. Good looking car regardless of the bad assembly work,

Only took you six minutes to post that from a small photo. You saw it immediately. Gotta admit I did not notice it until about the fourth time I looked at it.
How could they have NOT seen that when putting it on the full-size car and driving around in it, and taking photos  You should see what it looks like in the head-on, front shot.

Well the front bumper is upside down. But that must be too obvious to be the real answer.

Here is another one of Dad's (Joe Gertler) negatives, of a unique Duesenberg. It is taken outside of his Raceway Garage Shop in 1958, according to the license plate. Sorry the scan is a bit small, but that is to make it interesting to guess why it is "unique." Chris S. please send me your regular email address, so I can get you some better scans of Dad's Auburn, Cord and Duesenberg negs and photos, for the ACD Club records. I hope Chris can provide me with more details of its history for my own records.. You speculated (from my meager text description) that it might be a car with tan interior and side pipes. Neither, as the interior is very dark color.
