My wife and I rode in a white J roadster a few years ago and it was carrying engine J401. If I'm not badly mistaken.it was an engine that
sorta/kinda survived the Pratt&Whitney auxillary supercharger experiments. That experiment was to use a powerful automobile engine to drive a supercharger for a larger aircraft engine, probably a multi row radial engine. In the 1940's,a powerful car engine had to be a Duesenberg model J as there was nothing else even close to the needed 200+HP needed to drive that big aircarft supercharger.

could anyone identify this car?
I would say it must be one of the earlier cars (no hood ornament, the radiator shell without shutters..)

Here is J395 back in 2002. No Pilot Rays back then either.

Hello,

I have a little additional information about J-395, for the files

During the time the car was part of the Imperial Palace Collection in Las Vegas. It was shipped to Germany for some few months in 1995/1996. The car was, together with another four I.P. Collection Model J Dueseys, displayed at the "Auto & Technik MUSEUM SINSHEIM" sinsheim.technik-museum.de/ That museum is one of the best european museum for technical issues.
Beside a huge car-collection there is a vast amount of tanks, war and civil aircrafts (e.G. Concorde, Russian "Concorde" TU144, Russian "Space Shuttle" Buran a.s.o.) and technical items of any kind.

I am curious though,

Why is the car so different in the original post than in the auction in '08?

Was it restored again after the pics in the original post were taken?

Hello,

looks like the car is on sale at the Gooding auction in Arizona in January.

Is that correct, that a supercharger was later added?

Does someone know at what time that work was done (Original SC/or Replica SC)?

My notes DO show J-353 / 2372 as having been LWB. This is one I can't explain right away. It is thought to have originally had a Judkins Berline body, and is known to have later had a Willoughby Sedan body, which more or less confirms it as a LWB.

Always learning...

in your registry I see that the chassis 2372 should be LWB, but the car in the picture seems to be SWB, or am I wrong?

Hey guys, perhaps others can get onboard in referring to model Js by their Chassis PLUS engine (J) number. I'd settle for J-number + chassis number. (Example: J-253/2274. Or J-253 / 2274 for easier reading. To my knowledge switching engines changes the car's identity only in the Duesenberg world.
