This is what happens when you avoid Birmingham?. Pot hole filled, 1 lane road

Anyone know what this is? We do not?.

Nachez Trace

Today, started out with a scare: ?Blackie? didn?t want to start. Mike unloaded the car, changed his clothes, removed the starter, fixed it, cleaned up, changed his clothes again, and repacked the car. (It took less time to fix it than to pack, repack and clean up) The sky was very threatening, so the top was up all day. We had a few minutes of rain in the morning, most of the day was cloudy but pleasant. There were several times we were the only one on the road for miles. As we were driving on the Natchez Trace a black snake slithered across the road. Mike swerved and avoided it. We ended the day in Greenwood, MS.

Can't honestly say that I know, but I would venture that it is some sort of lumber planner or edger.
I'm pretty sure the pulleys under the table that are closely together side by side are for the table travel and for reversing its direction. When the table reaches the end of its travel a lever will be tripped and move the belts to another pulley and table travel direction will be reversed.

Thanks! We think you are right. It was in an area where lumber operations were located.

We were awakened last night about 1:30 am by a tornado siren. The Auburn was parked safely under the hotel canope. We waited out the storm in the hotel lobby, then returned to our room. Today, we are delaying our start and hoping to drive under the remaining storms.[/b]

I thought that machine looked like a Cord L-29 prototype!
Sorry Joan; "car parked safely under the hotel canopy" will not save you from a tornado! Car parked safely 50 feet under ground in a cement bunker with steel doors is mo better.

Machine appears to be a 4 sided molder. The 2 pulleys close together drive the lower cutter heads, the upper belts, one on each side drive the upper heads. Belt on the near side, most likely is driving the feed rolls. The belt on the far side is driving the dust blower which is mounted on the framework above. This all appears to be powered by a power takeoff shaft from a basic farm tractor. Just an opinion from an old woodbutcher!!Safe Journeys to you Mike and Joan. Bob and the RUM-RUNNER
