Wednesday May 27, 2009/ day 48

We left Warsaw about 11:15 this morning after visiting Mike?s Mom in the nursing home. It was overcast but not raining when we left. Before we got to the Michigan line it started raining. The rain was spotty. About 30 minutes from home, it was raining so hard we had to pull over because we couldn?t see out the front windows. We stopped till the rain let up, and the sun was shinning when we reached home.

Yes, we are HOME! We drove into the driveway at 3:35 PM today. We were greeted by a million mosquitoes and grass about a foot high. Mike thought he might need to take his car trailer over to pick up the mail, however it wasn?t quite that bad?three large boxes full plus a stack of packages from Mike?s ebay purchases. The grandchildren made us a welcome home banner for the front door and both our son and our daughter and their families came over for supper ? subs.

We traveled 8566 miles according to the Cord?s odometer. I will give a final expenses total when I finish adding things up. Today is day 48, just shy of 7 weeks. The Cord is going to get a little rest. We will be driving the Auburn for the remainder of the meets and tours we do this summer, with the exception of the Hoosier tour and the reunion when we will be bringing the L29. We will be home until the Auburn Spring Warmup, June 18, except for the Gilmore Experience on June 7. They are having the year of ?the Seniors?, Mike?s Auburn speedster is an early senior, number 186; it got it?s senior in 1963.

We overshot our goal... Coast to Coast and Back; it was really a great trip and we looked forward to every part of the trip. We are happy so many of you followed our posts. We looked forward to taking pictures and posting everyday and were really happy to get your comments and suggestions. Thanks to everyone who hosted us while we were away, it was such a pleasure to visit with you and get to know new people. Looking forward to seeing you all down the road!

I finished adding up the totals for our coast to coast trip. Here it is: 8566 miles 712.163 Gallons of Gas @ total cost of $1645.61
food total = $1235.20 Hotels total = $6444.31 Misc. total = $414.48
Total cost $6444.31
This excludes the registration cost for the Oklahoma Meet, and the Eastern Meet. It also excludes my souvenirs.

By souvenirs, she means jewelery. But cheap at twice the cost. How many wives would ride in a old car for that long and for that far with a smile on their face the whole way. I'm a lucky man!!
CORDially Mike
