Make a deal with your local private airport for your seldom driven cars. They sell a 100 octane fuel with a touch of lead. We buy unleaded racing fuel, and we buy racing gas, up to about 110 octane, from our local race supplier

How many of you have actually burned a set of valves using unleaded gas? Those of Guvmint knock tests were run at maximum RPM and full load. I've never run an old car like that, and I have never had a problem.

My upcoming book in the MotorBooks Workshop series is called [i:37g7udoi]How To Keep Your Collector Car Alive[/i:37g7udoi]. Has a whole chapter on modern gasolines. (And another on modern oils.) They are based on the latest research as of this writing. Hope they are not obsolete by spring 2008, when the book will be published.

As you may well know , I run my 31 898 on LPG. I have a drip feed valve saver sucked into the inlet manifold. I have now done over 12,000 miles with no problems. Bob Hale Gt. Livermere. England..

Josh Malks wrote: But why would you want to? TEL is a very toxic compound. In 1924 an accident at an experimental TEL plant operated by Standard Oil of New Jersey left at least five dead and thirty-five others suffering from tremors, palsies, and hallucinations --- the neurological symptoms of lead poisoning.

Why invite it into your garage, even in diluted form?
