The sixth brake spring is used on the Bendix brake with the " secondary stop ". It holds tension on the secondary ( rear ) shoe when adjusting clearance with the cam adjustment.. This brake was used on Cord 812, Auburns 33-36, Cadillac, LaSalle, Olds,Pontiac, some Packards. Reference- Grey-Rock Brake Service Manual.

The Bendix brake design uses six springs on each wheel. There are two return springs, two hold down, one for the adjuster. What is the function of the sixth spring? I am really confused. Could someone help me.
