Hello, CMC body tags on hand built Cords were located under the front passenger seat next to the tool box.

Hi,

My 810 renumbered to 812 screws are pan head.

Mine are pan head. Not the round head we see in today's applications.

Thanks for the reply: Were those round-head or pan-head screws?

Just a note about the correct tag plate screws. The had a slotted head from the factory so. Do you want it correct or DMV proper??? My personal feelings are I want what the factory sent it out to the road. Not what some DMV "expert" wants to see. Sometimes a little local power is taken a little too far. Please disregard if you want a driver and not a correct show car.
There are plenty of variables when restoring our 810 or 812 Cords.

Great! Thanks for that info. I'm also thinking that smooth-head drive screws would be
OK to mount these tags, instead of slotted screws. I know that most DMV agencies hate to see
removable screws or pop rivets.

Dear Sir
You indicate that you are " a novice Cord owner ". We all are novices when it comes to understanding the marque CORD. I have noted your frequent posts to this ACD Club website since 2003 , so you know that we can't expect instant responses to our inquiries. I thought to respond immediately to your post of 4-7-16 but thought someone else would. Apparently they did not. The serial plate on Cord Models 810/812 is located on the right side of the cowl panel , under the hood panel and attached by four straight slot screws. The CMC plate ( Central Manufacturing Co.)
is rectangular and smaller and is attached with two similar screws just below the above described serial plate. If the plates are missing you should be able to see the screw holes in the cowl panel. You should also be aware that there is on the right side stub frame rail ( outboard on the flat surface of the rail and within four rivet heads in a square pattern just aft of the right front shock absorber ) a frame number [ on most cars --there are always the exceptions ].
There is a correlation between this frame number and the unit serial number.
Quoting our Cord 810/812 historian Ron Irwin , "The frame numbers although not included in this listing do have a special relationship to the serial numbers.
Frame numbers started with 1 and went up. The frame number is always 1000 lower than the serial number." ( MASTER CORD LIST , Page -B- ). These numbers are very lightly stamped in the steel rail and caution must be exercised when cleaning the surface in search of the number , lest the numbers be obliterated. I hope this response answers your inquiry. If not , feel free to give me a call.

Hi: I'm a novice Cord owner: My Central Manufacturing tag is mounted on the right side
of the firewall, just below the VIN tag. Is this the correct location? Or should it be
on the interior floor, as was done by Auburn?
