I think the mirror is upside down in the maroon Cord. You should get a better rear view by turning it around. The attached picture is of a very original unrestored Cord.

wow the first reverse cluster gear is in bad shape but so is the first reverse slider gear. Are you replacing the gear bushings? Are you hard chroming the shaft the gears ride on??? Sure is plenty of work in these transmissions. I'm machining and rebuilding my trans now as you are.

Greetings , Youenn Perrin , aka RubyDS., You are just having too much fun in your delightfully aged garage/shop in France. A visit to your shop by a Ganges Green Westchester followed by a similar visit by a Rich Maroon Model 810 which appears to be a Westchester as well. Your Custom Beverly is shown lurking in the background as she comes closer and closer to reaching your restoration goals. Keep up the excellent work and the flow of periodic messages to our ACD Club Forum. Oh, yes , congratulations on your Soccer Cup victory if that is your thing. Best Regards, Jonathan Richards #1080 at Chesterfield, Missouri , USA.

Rudy, continuing with the alternative method proposed by Henry Portz you will need spacers between the outer cups.
Mine worked out with the following dimensions. Outside diameter 2.5" Inside diameter 2.125" Width 0.5"

I toured with the Past president of Timken a few years ago and he told me there are alternatives to some of the rear extremely expensive bearings and races as you can see here. A little research is required and a cooperative bearing counter man.

I used the Timken 13835D double row race and Timken 13890 cup. Unlike the original double row race I removed, the new Timken 13835D had holes around the center for lubrication. I drilled the bottom retainer bolt for the bearing housing and installed a grease fitting so that the bearings can be greased occasionally.

Rudy the bearing numbers I have listed are.
M28241 / 1R2424 ......... is the needle bearing assembly
138890 .............................. is the taper roller cup
13830 ................................. is the taper roller bearing cone
The outside diameter of the bearing is 2 1/2" which fits inside the outer bearing block.
I can't remember the shaft size of the suspension arm
Any bearing company should be able to readily supply these parts.

Henry Portz suggested using two separate taper roller bearings with a spacer between the outer cups then tightening the big nut on the pivot shaft to 8 ft lbs with the nut free running on the thread. This is a much cheaper option as the bearings are readily available. Grease nipples can be set up to feed the inner needle bearings with a tube passing through the centre of the pivot shaft. Grease nipples can also be added to the taper roller bearing housing. I followed Henry's guidelines which are laid out in an old newsletter. I will look for the details and post them in this Forum.

I recently bought a pair of these double row bearing races from a local bearing supplier BUT I almost feel over with
the price. They were $280. each. I also bought the 4 bearing that fit these races from a different supplier (old car bearing co.) in
North Carolina. I think they were $35.00 each. I purchased the double row races from Baystate Bearing co., 138 Reed Ave.,
West Hartford, Ct. 06110 phone number (860) 953-0055. Hope this helps....Cliff

Sad news is these bearings are no longer made. There is a very slight hope someone has a set of NOS bearings but it was discussed on this forum a few years ago. Nobody had any at that time. checking ebay is about the best way to find something but you just have to "bee there" when they might get listed. A restorer in Europe machined a set of bushings in place of the bearings. If that's what you end up doing it probably would be a great item to install grease fittings. Remember these inner and outer bearings are moving up and down all the time with every small bump in the road.

The Lockheed and Bendix master cylinders are almost identical . They will interchange. I believe the company used both on 34-36 Auburn. Which ever they could buy the cheapest.

That master cylinder looks like the wrong part for your car. My car has a Bendix brake system on it. My car is a 1937 and serial number is 1748S. The 36 and 37 Cords had either Bendix or Wagner Lockheed brakes. Can you tell this forum what brakes your car has? If you don't know the difference. The Bendix brake shoes adjust from the bottom by the star wheel. the Lockheed adjust by the bottom but from the back of the backing plate. ebay has a good picture of the Lockheed brake backing plates for and example. I can post pictures later on what my master cylinder and brakes look like.
