external 812 gear filter was created by balinwire
I used some questionable gear oil from a 1930's gear oil dispenser in my unit. After thinking about it and feeling guilty,as it looked dirty,I removed the drain plug that is placed in the lowest part of the casing that is easily accessed. Out dumped the entire contents. I decided to drain the filter. Not all the contents of the filter will drain from the 1/4"in. plug. Then I removed the two 1/2"in. bolts on the filter and disassembled it, revealing a gross mess of sludge. I then removed the filter copper lines and flushed them. I used a gasoline bath outdoors with great caution. I will refill the trans gear case and run and reflush. I recommend any case that has not been rebuilt have the filter completely taken apart and washed. Also backflush the bronze element with a powerful stream of water as there will be dirt inside it also.
back to breaking, I mean fixing things, balin?
